Meet Dr. Amir Itani

“Treat the patient, not the problem” will always be Dr. Itani’s guiding philosophy while providing full-scope oral surgery to the community. Through prioritization of the patient experience and emphasis on empathetic care, Dr. Itani promises to make your oral surgery experience a positive one. Every treatment is a discussion, and Dr. Itani works to empower his patients to make well-informed decisions regarding their own care. In this way, the patient participates in custom-tailoring their own treatment plan and can enjoy surgical outcomes they are happy with.

Dr. Itani grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland and has always called the DMV home. This home-town loyalty is what drove him to pursue his bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland, College Park and later his dental degree at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.  When applying for a residency position within the highly competitive specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, he was further elated to match at his #1 choice program at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C, a program well-renowned across the country for its rigorous and diverse training. He was the only student from his class of 130 to successfully matriculate into oral surgery residency that year. Dr. Itani has always intended to return to and treat the same community that he grew up in, received his education from, and has come to love. He was therefore thrilled to have met Dr. Leonard Merlo while serving as Chief Resident at MedStar, and to join a provider like him who has been taking care of DMVers for decades.

Dr. Itani currently shares an apartment in Arlington, VA with his wife, whom he met during dental school. His primary interests include fanhood for Washington sports teams, and he insists that the “Washington Commanders” team name is not that bad. He and his wife otherwise share passions for skiing/snowboarding, going to the movies, learning about wine, and trying new restaurants.
